MO(NU)MENT
August - December 2022
What is a monument?
A monument is usually an ode to a (historic) figure or to commemorate a specific event that took place. But a building, object or site can also become a monument. These are the well-known descriptions of monuments.
But what is a monument to me and now?
I am fascinated by the concept of monuments: what do they want to tell us and which state of mind do they represent? And what does that to me? How does a monument relate to a place in transition?
This Monument is a portrait of the place, is in transition, is against gentrifying the city, is critical about high-rise, is asking: from who the city is? is adding a layer, is a state of mind, is looking down, is stepping up, is temporary, is symbolic and is historic.
This Monument has been, is now and will be.
This Monument is an ode to all and belongs to everyone.
Thanks to inhabitants I interviewed and and others whom I interviewed.
