Between build, demolish and rebuild

Dating back from the Industrial Revolution, The Willemsspoorbrug linked the north and south of Rotterdam. The bridge enabled the growth of both the city and port and played a role in the Battle of the Maas Bridges (WWII). But time caught up with the bridge: trains had to wait too long for the crossing and went underground. The bridge was demolished.

The port – with its industrial grime - will become the new industrial heritage. This heritage offers a potential for space that can be cleverly utilized in a way that suits the Rotterdam's identity and his inhabitants.

Let's combine this legacy with ideals of a green city. Instead of demolishing opting to reuse the existing forms and textures of the city and port. The Willemsspoorbrug symbolized the possibility for new urban life emerging in the strangest places.
